An 80s singing legend has officially opened a new £1.9 million MRI scanner at a hospital in Great Missenden.
Tony Hadley, who rose to international fame as the lead singer of Spandau Ballet, cut the ribbon at The Chiltern Hospital on Friday, August 14.
He said: “I’m delighted to be involved in the opening of this amazing MRI scanner.
“This incredible piece of equipment will be invaluable.
“Thank you so much for asking me and anything that advances medical science is absolutely fantastic.”
The new SIGNA Voyager MRI scanner, manufactured by GE Healthcare, is part of a multi-year investment programme at the hospital to improve imaging and diagnostic services. It features air coils that adapt to the shape of the patient’s body for comfort and deep learning technology to improve image quality.
The hospital estimates that the scanner will allow them to see an additional 80 patients per week, helping to reduce waiting times.
Louise Walker, clinical services manager at The Chiltern Hospital, said: “Today marks an exciting milestone as we open our new MRI unit, combining cutting-edge technology with a calming patient-centred environment to improve access, reduce waiting times, and enhance the care our dedicated and compassionate imaging team provides to our community.”
The Chiltern Hospital is a 65-bed private facility that serves self-funding patients, those with private insurance, and NHS referrals.
It specialises in orthopaedic, cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, and gynaecology surgery.
