Sadness as café closes in Malvern after three years

THE owner of a café in Malvern said he was “very sad” to be closing after three years in the town centre.

Jon Hamilton shared an emotional farewell to customers as he announced that Coffee Culture’s site on Worcester Road would be closing.

He said that the landlord of the premises had enacted a break clause, meaning the café had to vacate the site.

“Unfortunately, the landlord issued a break notice,” he said in a social media video.

“I’m very sorry to say that we are forced to shut the shop here at Malvern. We are trying to find somewhere else but it’s proving quite difficult.”

The café closed on March 21, while its sister sites in Droitwich and Ledbury remain open as normal.

He said there are new tenants moving into the Malvern premises but further details are yet to be revealed.

The café first opened in 2023, an expansion from the business’ original coffee shop in Droitwich.

Mr Hamilton said closing in Malvern was a particularly “sad” moment for him, having met his fiancée there.

“It’s very sad and personally a very sad moment as I met my partner, my soon-to-be wife here,” he said. “She was one of my first customers here many years ago.”

Mr Hamilton said it had been “tremendous” running the café and broke down in tears as he thanked customers for their support.

“I’d just like to thank the Malvern community, our regulars here at Malvern Coffee Culture for the past three years,” he said.

“A big thank you to all of you for supporting the business.

“We’ve had a great time. I’d like to thank all the staff that have been here. We’ve had a tremendous time. It’s been a great experience
