Coffee or tea? Builders’ on-site brew preference revealed

When it comes to getting through the workday, builders know the value of a good brew.

A recent survey by Barratt and David Wilson Homes in Worcestershire has revealed the beverage and biscuit preferences of construction workers, with coffee taking the lead as the top choice among site staff.

Despite the UK’s national love for tea—100 million cups are consumed across Britain each day—58 per cent of workers opted for coffee, while only 28 per cent chose tea.

Adrian Evans, sales director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes, said: “When important decisions need to be made, there’s no better time for a nice, hot cuppa.

“It’s not a surprise to see coffee named the beverage of choice, alongside top tier dunkers Hobnob and Digestive.

“Whatever your drinking preference, we are always ready to put the kettle on for our customers looking for their first or next home and welcome anyone interested to visit our Sales Advisers for a cuppa and a chat.”

The survey, conducted ahead of National Tea Day on Tuesday, April 21, found that 61 per cent of site workers prefer their drinks without sugar, reflecting a shift towards healthier options.

When it comes to brewing methods, 87 per cent said hot water must be added first—a point of frequent debate in tea-making circles.

Biscuits, too, had their champions, with chocolate Hobnobs taking the top spot at 31 per cent, just ahead of chocolate digestives at 26 per cent.

Special mentions also went to shortbread, rich tea, and cookies.

Morning remains the preferred time for a brew, with 65 per cent of workers starting their day with a hot drink.

27 per cent say that three cups was the perfect amount in an average day, though one in seven admit to having five or more.
