Chip shop owner branches out and opens new cafe

A FISH and chip shop owner has branched out and opened a new café.

Three Counties Lounge has opened its doors on Barnard’s Green Road, in the premises previously occupied by Natural Choice fruit and vegetable shop, which closed last year.

Owner Kamran Jaff, who also runs 3 Counties Fish Bar next door said the idea came about when the site became vacant.

“I have a chip shop next door and when this became available, I had the idea to do something with it,” he said.

After more than two months of preparation, the new café threw open its doors on Wednesday, April 22.

Mr Jaff said visitors can expect a range of cakes, pastries, sausage rolls, coffee and other drinks.

The new opening was met with a sunny day, meaning the outdoor seating area has already been put to good use.

Mr Jaff said the response has been “great”, with a steady stream of customers throughout the first day.

“It’s been great,” he said. “We had a great response from the public.

“We have been really busy all day.

“People are saying that this is what has been missing from Barnard’s Green. They love it.”

The café owner said that while it can be nerve-wracking to start a new business, he is hopeful that his local knowledge, which spans across more than two decades, will help it to be a success.

“With any business, you’re never sure if you’re going to lose or make money but I’ve been in Barnard’s Green for 22 years and I know what is needed here,” he said.

“It’s been really good and I hope it’s going to continue that way.”
