Popular seated yoga group set to continue with funding boost

A seated yoga group which is helping older residents stay active will continue thanks to a funding boost.

Heriotts Seated Yoga has been awarded funding from Platform Housing Group’s Community Chest to continue its weekly sessions, which have been running for nine years for residents at The Heriotts in Droitwich.

The classes are attended mostly by Platform customers and have continued to grow in popularity over the years.

The funding will cover the cost of a yoga instructor for 30 sessions.

Liz Jauncey from Heriotts Seated Yoga said: “We really appreciate the support Platform has given us over the last nine years.

“The sessions are about much more than exercise, they help people come together, make friendships and feel less isolated.

“The classes are always well attended and many residents really look forward to them each week.

“It’s wonderful to see the positive difference they continue to make.”

Platform Housing Group’s Community Chest fund supports a wide range of local projects focused on wellbeing, inclusion, community cohesion and opportunities for local people.

Chris Colley, community engagement officer at Platform Housing Group, said: “Groups like Heriotts Seated Yoga play a hugely important role in supporting health, wellbeing, and social connection for older residents.

“It’s fantastic to see a project that has been making such a positive difference for nearly a decade continue to thrive, and we’re very pleased to be able to support the group once again through our Community Chest funding.”

Applications for Community Chest funding are open to Platform customers and local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations for projects directly benefitting Platform customers.

All applications are reviewed by the Customer Voice Panel, made up of Platform customers, who assess projects against set eligibility criteria.
