Worcestershire electric car owners to benefit from 250 new chargers

Worcestershire electric car owners are set to benefit from a major EV charging rollout coming to the Midlands.

EZO, an EV charging provider, has secured a a 15-year £176 million contract to deliver and manage electric vehicle charging infrastructure across four counties.

The scheme will see 250 new chargers installed for residents in Worcestershire, Leicestershire, Rutland, and Warwickshire.

Ollie Chatten, chief executive of EZO, said: “This partnership in the Midlands is another major milestone for EZO and a clear demonstration of the trust local UK authorities are placing in us to deliver EV charging at scale.

“This rollout will transform EV charging in the Midlands, making it easier than ever for residents and businesses to switch to clean transport.”

The contract has been awarded by the Fourth Midlands EV Infrastructure Consortium (FMeviC), a joint partnership between the four county councils.

The group worked alongside Midlands Connect to secure the agreement with EZO.

Funded by the UK Government, the scheme will not require direct capital investment from any of the councils involved.

The project aims to boost the installation of rapid and ultra-rapid electric vehicle chargers across the Midlands, supporting national green transport targets.

It is part of the government’s wider goal to install 65,000 chargers across the UK by 2030.

A particular focus will be placed on areas where on-street parking is common.

The rollout aims to improve air quality, support the decarbonisation of transport, and make EV ownership more accessible for people without off-street parking.

Mr Chatten said the collaboration will help drive a “step-change” in EV accessibility across the region.

He said: “Our strategy is about more than deploying chargers – it’s about building the infrastructure backbone for the next generation of mobility across communities.

“We have over 140,000 drivers now accessing our platform across the UK and Ireland, and we see a path to growing steadily.

“We are firmly on course to become one of the most trusted EV charging providers in the UK and Ireland.”

EZO’s contract value in the UK now totals £476 million.
