A rehoming centre is giving a special round of “appaws” to its team of dedicated dog-loving helpers.
As part of National Volunteers’ Week, Dogs Trust Evesham has paid tribute to its 130 volunteers who give around 530 hours of their time each month to support the care of homeless dogs.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.
Tasks carried out by helpers include dog walking, gardening, cleaning bedding, fostering, and fundraising.
Sam Westgate, volunteer coordinator at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: “Our fabulous team of volunteers are the most amazing, kind, and dedicated people I have ever met.
“They go above and beyond for the dogs in our care, and it simply wouldn’t be possible to achieve everything we do without them.
“Volunteers Week is the perfect time to thank them for their time, commitment and good humour – they are simply the best!”
Dogs Trust relies on a network of more than 3,600 volunteers across the UK, who help the charity care for more than 11,000 dogs each year.
As the UK’s largest dog welfare organisation, Dogs Trust operates 22 rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland.
The charity has a strict non-destruction policy and will never put a healthy dog to sleep.
It also works to educate the public about canine behaviour and responsible ownership, aiming to reduce the number of dogs given up or abandoned.
Volunteering with Dogs Trust offers a range of opportunities for people with different interests and skills, from hands-on animal care to behind-the-scenes support.
