The park in Barbourne, Worcester, is named after the 1914 Battle of Gheluvelt near Ypres in Belgium, where the regiment’s 2nd Battalion played a pivotal role in halting a German advance and was said to have helped save the British Empire in the war’s early stages.

In recognition of their heroism, Worcester dedicated the park as a memorial and opened it to the public on June 17, 1922.

Today Gheluvelt Park remains a popular green space, featuring a bandstand, duck pond, play area, splash pad,and open fields stretching from Barbourne Road towards the River Severn.
