Iconic car maker wants to build extra chimneys at Malvern factory

AN iconic car maker is planning to build extra chimneys at its headquarters in Malvern.

Morgan Motor Company says the two ventilation chimneys would serve the aero shop at its factory in Pickersleigh Road.

It says the aero shop sits in a “central position within the wider factory complex and is surrounded by other industrial buildings and associated operational areas”.

“The building is a modern portal frame industrial unit with profiled metal cladding and a shallow-pitched roof containing existing rooflights and ventilation equipment.”

Morgan said the chimneys would serve “existing manufacturing processes” and there would be no increase in floorspace or operational capacity.

“The proposal has been designed to integrate with the existing industrial character of the building,” plans state.

“The aero shop already accommodates a number of roof-mounted flues, vents and engineering installations.

“The proposed chimneys continue this established pattern and have been positioned within an existing cluster of rooftop plant rather than as isolated structures.

“The development is functional in nature and reflects the operational requirements of the manufacturing process whilst seeking to minimise visual impact.”

VisitEngland award win

Morgan Motor Company has been manufacturing cars in Malvern Link since it was founded by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan in 1909.

The Morgan family retains a shareholding in the company more than a century later.

Last month, the company won an award for its Morgan Experience, which offers insights into the craftsmanship, skills and heritage behind the construction of each Morgan car.

It won gold in the Small Visitor Attraction category at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2026.

Beth Ingham said the award “reflects the passion and dedication of the team behind Morgan Experience”.

“From welcoming visitors to Pickersleigh Road and delivering factory tours, to creating exceptional driving tours across the UK and Europe, they work tirelessly to create memorable experiences that bring the Morgan story to life,” she said.

Morgan recently unveiled its first hard-top sports car in over a decade—the Midsummer Coupé.

Only nine individually tailored examples of the car will be made, making it ultra-exclusive.
