Disgraced ex-police officer who stole £12,000 handed lifetime ban

A DISGRACED ex-police officer who stole over £12,000 from a police federation has been banned from working in law enforcement for life.

Former West Mercia Police officer Jamie Harrison, 55, faced a police misconduct hearing on July 16 as a result of allegations of discreditable conduct while a member of the force.

Harrison, formerly of Worcester Road, Droitwich, was jailed for 27 months in March after being convicted of 15 counts of fraud committed between 2010 and 2018 following a five-week trial at Hereford Crown Court earlier this year.

The 55-year-old had been secretary and treasurer of West Mercia Police’s Federation when he began to abuse the position for his own personal gain.

This included booking four-star hotels with his family when attending police memorial events and paying for what was described as a Christmas party ‘pub crawl’ by Judge Martin Jackson.

At the accelerated misconduct hearing, which is a special type of hearing where there is undeniable evidence, such as a criminal conviction, of gross misconduct, the allegations were found to be true.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “The chair decided that former officer Jamie Harrison would have been dismissed if he had not ceased to be a member of West Mercia Police.

“As a consequence of this finding, former officer Jamie Harrison will be included on the barred list held by the College of Policing.”

Appearing on the barred list will prevent Harrison for ever working for any police for in England and Wales, any Police and Crime Commissioner’s office, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Service, or The Independent Office for Police Conduct.
