THE potential reason behind a fire at a large recycling firm near Worcester has been revealed.
Firefighters tackled a fire and prevented it from spreading further at the EnviroSort facility in Norton on Thursday.
EnviroSort is a site that handles Worcestershire and Herefordshire’s green bins and the mixed recycling containers at the Household Recycling Centres.
A spokesperson for FCC Environment revealed that early indications suggest the fire was caused by a battery.

“A small fire broke out in the tipping hall of the EnviroSort facility in the early hours of the morning while it was not operating,” the spokesperson said.
“Early indications suggest it was caused by a battery.

“The fire was quickly and safely extinguished, and the facility was fully operational from 7am on Thursday morning.”

Previously, a spokesperson for Pershore Fire Station said: “This morning (Thursday), our crews were mobilised to a fire at a waste sorting facility, alongside a crew from Worcester.
“Upon arrival, two Breathing Apparatus used 1 Hose Reel to extinguish and prevent further fire spread.
“Our team’s swift response to the incident prevented further fire spread and damage.
“Well done to all involved.”
EnviroSort, on Woodbury Lane, has dealt with over a million tonnes of recycling since it opened in 2009.
