FOOTAGE of a long queue of traffic has shown why a new system has been introduced at the tip in Worcester.
There was a long tailback on Bilford Road on Sunday, August 30 as residents visited the household recycling centre.
Heavy traffic has previously been described as a “persistent issue” in the area, particularly at weekends, when the tip is at its busiest.

Traffic has ‘led to dangerous driving’
Councillor Matt Jenkins, leader of Worcestershire County Council, said there had been instances of fed-up drivers making dangerous manoeuvres to escape queues, including overtaking on the wrong side of the road.
“The previous long queues led to dangerous driving such as overtaking on the wrong side of the road,” he said.
“It was an accident waiting to happen.”
New booking system at Bilford Road Recycling Centre
A booking system has now been introduced at Bilford Road Household Recycling Centre, with people required to book in advance via the county council website for visits on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
Residents will be allowed to visit up to six times within a 14 day period, and bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance.
Those who arrive without a booking will be required to make one while in the queue, subject to availability.
Bookings will not be required for those visiting the tip from Tuesday to Friday.
The new system went live on Saturday, August 29, with booked slots starting on Saturday, September 12.

“Many people have complained the queues at the weekend are wasting a lot of their time,” Cllr Jenkins said.
“Pre-booking a time slot should mean that residents will be in and out much more quickly.
“When you book a slot via the county council website you will need to select Bilford Road.
“We hope that this system will help to reduce congestion in the area as pre-booking slots should speed things up and take the stress out of going to the tip.
“The new system is the same as used successfully at other county sites and also in Herefordshire.
“With planned house building in the pipeline, there is definitely still a need for more household recycling centres across the county.”
