Three young Worcester dancers to perform with professionals in prestigious production

Three young Worcester dancers have earned a place in a major ballet production.

Olivia McKelvie, Ivy Silk, and Annabelle Stelling-Cound are all aged 10 and will perform in English Youth Ballet’s (EYB)  production of Swan Lake at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on October 9th and 10th.

The trio overcame competitive auditions and will join an 80-strong cast to perform alongside internationally acclaimed professionals in the classic ballet.

Ivy, who began ballet at Translucent Dance Studio when she was just two years old, said: “My mum took me to ballet when I was 2 and a half and I’ve loved it ever since!

“Dancing is really fun, it’s makes me feel happy and excited and I love to try new things and meet new people.

“I am super excited to be a part of Swan Lake and experience what it is like to dance on a big stage with real ballerinas!”

Founded in 1998, English Youth Ballet has established a reputation for giving talented young dancers the chance to perform on major regional stages alongside professional principal dancers.

Taking part in the production has given the young dancers a taste of the dedication required in professional ballet.

This includes intensive rehearsals that combine training, choreography, character work and coaching from seasoned professionals.

Ann Wall, principal dancer with English Youth Ballet who will perform as Odette in the production, said: “Being part of EYB is an amazing experience for any young dancer.

“I feel privileged to be a principal dancer with the company. I enjoy teaching and coaching all the young dancers and I see some of the most talented young dancers in the country.

“I feel honoured to be a role model to the dancers and help give them an insight into the world of professional ballet.

“Dancing with EYB is an experience that will stay with the young dancers forever.”

Many former EYB performers have gone on to build successful careers with top ballet companies, including The Royal Ballet.

For Olivia, Ivy, and Annabelle, being part of Swan Lake is not only a professional milestone but also a cherished opportunity to grow in confidence, develop their skills and perform with professionals on a grand stage.
