THE name for a new pub that aims to transform a 100-year-old working men’s club into a traditional ale boozer has been revealed.
Droitwich Working Men’s Club, which closed its doors for good on Friar Street earlier this year, has been bought by Black Country Ales, and big plans are underway to transform the site.
The business already runs The Imperial Tavern and The Saracen’s Head in Worcester and hopes to refurbish the former men’s club into an alehouse that nods to the building’s rich history.

Angus McMeeking, director of Black Country Ales, said the pub’s new name will nod to Droitwich’s rich mining history, which once made up much of the workforce.
The building on the corner of Friar Street and Ricketts Lane will be called The Salters’ Arms.
Angus McMeeking, director of Black Country Ales, said: “We have the necessary planning and listed building permissions in place now to alter the former Droitwich Working Men’s Club into a traditional pub serving a range of real ales.

“Builders are on site and making good progress, and we hope to open in early December.
“Publicans are being sought for the new pub, either couples or single operators, and accommodation on site is provided for the chosen licensees.

The pub’s opening date has not yet been revealed.
Black Country Ales said Droitwich has a strong tradition of community venues and alehouses and its plan is in some way to celebrate the heritage of the former Working Men’s Club.
It is teased that they will do this by carefully preserving its character while bringing it back into use as a traditional real ale pub.
