Care home shortlisted for national award a year after opening

A Worcester care home has been shortlisted for a national award just one year after opening.

Perdiswell Rose in Droitwich Road is a finalist for Care Team of the Year at the National Care Awards.

The team was recognised for its collaborative, person-centred approach involving staff across care, nursing, housekeeping, hospitality, and wellbeing.

Each day, staff meet to share observations about residents, helping to build a complete picture of each individual’s needs.

Sandie Preece, registered manager, said: “Everyone here notices something different about our residents.

“A housekeeper might spot that someone isn’t quite themselves, or a chef might learn about a favourite dish from years ago.

“When we pool what we know, we can care for people as the individuals they are.

“This shortlisting belongs to every one of them.”

The home also involves families in care planning and works closely with NHS teams.

Residents help shape daily life at the home, including the design and care of the garden.

One resident, Ian Stone, serves as head gardener, while another, Ruth Bowen, manages her own greenhouse.

The kitchen team incorporates produce grown by residents into meals.

Bhav Amlani, director of Macc Care, said: “Seeing the Perdiswell Rose team recognised nationally within its first year is a fantastic achievement.

“Opening a new care home is about far more than the building.

“It’s about creating a culture where people look out for one another and put residents first in every decision.

“What makes this shortlisting special is that it recognises the whole team, from nurses and carers to housekeeping and hospitality.

“We’re incredibly proud of them and wish them the very best of luck.”

The team now goes up against some of the most established care teams in the UK, with the winners set to be announced at the Park Plaza in Westminster on November 6.
