ELECTRIC lorries will soon be able to recharge at a Worcestershire motorway service station after plans for a new charging hub were approved.
Eight charging bays for electric HGVs will be built at the northbound Strensham Services, near junction 8 of the M5.
GRIDSERVE Sustainable Energy Ltd’s plans include 16 high-power charging points alongside electrical equipment, lighting, CCTV and number plate recognition cameras.
The hub will be built north of the service station’s existing HGV parking area.
Malvern Hills District Council approved the scheme, saying it would provide “necessary infrastructure” for some of the biggest vehicles on the roads.
Victory for ‘common sense’ as digital hub that would block deliveries rejected
Developers could be made to pay 60 years of road maintenance costs
In its decision, the council said: “The proposal to install an eHGV charging hub and associated works would be considered appropriate within the existing service station.”
It added that electric charging hubs would “reduce the carbon footprint and positively contribute to the environment.”
