BBC reveals future of Top Gear as reports suggest an upcoming reboot for fans

Reports suggest popular TV show Top Gear is returning to our screens after it paused filming following Freddie Flintoff’s serious crash, and the BBC has revealed the future of the show.

A TV insider suggests fans can look forward to a new lineup of hosts as the previous ones, Paddy McGuinness, Chris Harris and Flintoff won’t return.

They also said that BBC Studios has started working on the show’s comeback and that fans could see the new episodes as early as next year.

A brief history of Top Gear

An insider told The Sun: “BBC bosses are keen to revive Top Gear because they have never filled the space it left behind and so many viewers hanker after a motoring show.

“And it’s not just in Britain that the programme is much loved, it is a brand in its own right and watched by millions around the globe.

“Which is why it wasn’t just important to satisfy the needs of petrolheads, but also, specifically, fans of Top Gear.

“They’ll be thrilled to hear it is returning.”

Popular hosts of the programme have also included Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc.

What happened to Freddie Flintoff on Top Gear?

Freddie Flintoff was left with facial and rib injuries after the high-speed crash at the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey, in 2022.

During his recovery, he stayed largely out of the public eye.

After the crash, the BBC “rested” Top Gear for the foreseeable future in 2023 after reaching a financial settlement with Flintoff, an agreement reportedly worth around £9 million.
