Care home residents mark National Fitness Day with charity walk

Care home residents, relatives and staff came together for a community walk to celebrate National Fitness Day and support a good cause.

Dorset House in Droitwich organised the event, which saw residents, families, volunteers and team members walk or wheel from the care home to Droitwich Lido Park and back.

The activity supported the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, a charity that advocates for accessible walking, wheeling and cycling for all.

Sharen Guise, chief operating officer at Rotherwood Healthcare, said: “It was great to see everyone getting involved in National Fitness Day.

“The walk brought residents, families, volunteers and team members together for some fresh air, good company and a chance to support a great cause.

“It was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

Participants completed the route in ways that suited their abilities, whether walking, using wheelchairs, or simply joining the group for the outing.

Ms Guise said: “The walk forms part of Rotherwood Healthcare’s wider approach to wellbeing, where residents are encouraged to remain active and engaged in ways that reflect their individual interests, abilities and goals.

“Through movement, activities and opportunities to connect with others, residents are supported to maintain their independence while continuing to enjoy meaningful moments together.”
