Downs Syndrome family support group marks 40th anniversary

A support group formed by parents as a way to connect and help each other is celebrating its 40th year.

The Pershore & Evesham District Downs Syndrome (PEDDS) Family Support Group, which provides support and advice and social events for people with Down’s Syndrome and their families across Worcestershire, marked the milestone with a weekend of special events.

The group, an affiliated group of the Downs Syndrome Association, was started in 1986 by Sue Nutting after the birth of her daughter Sam, along with parents Janet Arnold and Cherry Robinson.

Families and guests celebrated with a fun coach trip to Twycross Zoo on Saturday, followed by a party and drumming workshop with Worcester-based professional drummers Drumlove on Sunday in Pershore.

The Mayoress of Pershore, Julie Hemming, attended the party, joined in the drumming and met the families.

Mrs Nutting said: “Thank you to our wonderful committee and volunteer helpers and Drumlove who made the party such a joyous occasion.”
