Driver banned after reaching ‘ridiculous’ 125mph while speeding on M50 motorway

A DRIVER as been banned after he was caught at a ‘ridiculous’ speed of 125mph on the M50 in Worcestershire.

Williams Taylor, 20, appeared at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (July 1) charged with speeding on a motorway.

Taylor had been clocked by a mobile speed camera driving an Audi between junction 1 and junction 2 of the M50 at a speed of 125 miles per hour on September 6, 2025.

Because of the extremely high speed recorded, the 20-year-old appeared on court facing an instant driving disqualification.

Speaking to the court, he said: “There is no excuse. It was silly and I should not have done it.”

The court heard that Taylor had three points on his licence, which he received in April for separate speeding offence committed in 2025.

Sentencing, head magistrate Charles Moyle said: “The speed that you undertook was not just over the limit, it was positively ridiculous.

“We have no choice but to disqualify you because of the speed you were driving at.”

Taylor, of Park Gate Drive, Scissett, West Yorkshire, was given a 56-day driving ban and a £230 fine.

He was also ordered to £130 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £92 victim surcharge.
