Family-run business holds ‘blowout’ party to celebrate first anniversary

A CITY centre business has held a ‘blowout’ party to celebrate the first anniversary of its high street shop.

Evertons Wine Merchants in Reindeer Court celebrated the first anniversary of opening a shop in Worcester yesterday (May 23), in style – complete with wine and paella.

The business first started in 1918 in Ombersley and is now run by the fourth generation of the family.

Keith Walton, who attended the party, said: “The event is beautiful and brilliant. They are a lovely family, and they are a lot of fun. Gio is brilliant, he is really, really good and very knowledgeable.

Evertons Wine Merchants opened on May 2 2025, in Reindeer Court.

Jack Everton, the 4th generation owner of Evertons, said: “It is the first anniversary of the shop.

“Evertons has been going since 1918. It started in Ombersley, where Chequers is now, with my great-grandmother. I’m the fourth generation of it. We got the shop last May. It’s been going really well.

“We’ve been doing lots of wine tastings. We do lots of events here and things like that. So we thought we would have a bit of a blowout party. We’ve got some paella, we’ve got some live music coming in. It’s just a little celebration to say thank you to all the guests for supporting us.

“We’re expecting more than 100 people between 1pm till about 7.30pm. People will be dropping in and out and everything like that. It’s been a really good year for the shop.

“We are primarily wholesale around Worcester and Birmingham, but we took the shop back to sort of grow the private side of it, the tasting side of it, we’ve got the tasting room upstairs. It’s been a good first year, we’ve got a lot of traction, but we are trying to promote people coming in and having a drink.

“It’s gone better than expected. We do weekly tastings, which for a wine merchant is quite a lot. So we definitely push hard in the events. Its been a good year.”
