A new political comedy is heading to Malvern Theatres.
I’m Sorry, Prime Minister, written and directed by Jonathan Lynn, will run at the Worcestershire venue from July 28 to August 1 as part of a major UK tour.
Described as the final chapter in the legendary Yes, Minister series, the play stars Clive Francis as Sir Humphrey Appleby and Simon Rouse as former prime minister Jim Hacker.
The tour follows its acclaimed run at the Barn Theatre and is currently running at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End until May 9, 2026.
I’m Sorry, Prime Minister will open at the Cambridge Arts Theatre on May 19, 2026 and tour until August 1, 2026.
A spokesman for the production said: “The cast includes Clive Francis, who is reprising the role of Sir Humphrey Appleby, which he performed at the Barn Theatre, and is currently in the West End, alongside Simon Rouse in the role of ex-prime minister Jim Hacker.”
Princess Donnough will also return to her role as Sophie.
The play revisits the world of political satire created by BAFTA-winning co-creator Jonathan Lynn.
The spokesman said: “Jim Hacker is back – older, but perhaps not wiser, and still utterly baffled by the real world.
“Hoping for a quiet retirement from government as the master of Hacker College, Oxford, Jim instead finds himself facing the ultimate modern crisis: cancelled by the college committee.
“Enter Sir Humphrey Appleby, who has lost none of his love for bureaucracy, Latin phrases, and well-timed obstruction.
“Can Humphrey and Jim out manoeuvre the hostile students, the Fellows, and reality itself?
“Or is it finally time to say, ‘I’m Sorry, Prime Minister…’?
“Brimming with razor-sharp wit, nostalgic brilliance, and more double-speak than a press briefing, this is political comedy at its most timeless – and timely.”
Yes, Minister originally aired on BBC2 from 1980 to 1984, followed by its sequel, Yes, Prime Minister, from 1986 to 1988.
The stage adaptation, Yes, Prime Minister, premiered in 2010 and enjoyed successful runs in the West End and on tour.
I’m Sorry, Prime Minister is produced by Mark Goucher, Bob Benton, Iwan Lewis, Clive Hayley, and Gavin Kalin.
