THE death in prison of a man charged with a city murder has prompted a formal investigation.
Pawel Jezierski, 46, who was charged with murder was discovered at HMP Hewell Grange on Wednesday, September 9.
He had been charged with murdering Damian Buczek, 42, after an incident in Wyld’s Lane, Worcester.
West Mercia Police said no third-party involvement is suspected, and a coroner’s report will follow.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate, a spokesperson has confirmed.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “A prisoner died at HMP Hewell. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.”
They say they are unable to comment further at this stage of the investigation.
Police officers were called to an address in Wyld’s Lane shortly after 9pm on Tuesday, September 1, after a man was reportedly found with life-threatening injuries.
Mr Jezierski was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday, September 3, and later charged.

He appeared in court and was remanded in custody after his defence made no application for bail.
A plea and trial preparation hearing was arranged for November 17.
Judge Andrew Lockhart had ordered him to attend.
He was told that, if he denied the offences, a trial would begin in February 2027.
Mr Buczek was 42. The charge related to his death in Worcester. Court proceedings had not reached trial, and no finding had been made against Mr Jezierski before his death while still in custody.
We have previously reported how flowers and other tributes were left at the house where Mr Buczek sustained serious injuries from which he later died. In the days after his death, several police officers and forensics teams were at the terraced house in Wyld’s Lane, gathering evidence.
City councillors and members of the Polish community have paid tribute to Mr Buczek. Some members of the community have also asked the landlord to install a cat flap at the property as it is understood Mr Buczek had ‘seven cats’, four of which have so far been rescued.
