Jenny Lind Singers to perform special concert as part of Elgar Festival 2026

One of the most revered singers of the 19th century and a former Malvern resident will be celebrated at this year’s Elgar Festival.

Jenny Lind, known as the ‘Swedish Nightingale’, was a famous classical singer who toured the world in the 1840s and 1850s

After retiring, Mrs Lind and her husband bought a house at Wynds Point, Malvern, where she lived until her death in 1887.

To celebrate her life, her namesake Choir, the Jenny Lind Singers, will perform a programme of works from female composers at a special concert.

Kenneth Woods, artistic director of the Elgar Festival, said: “This virtuosic female voice choir celebrates the legacy of soprano and friend of Edward Elgar, Jenny Lind.

“Under the leadership of conductor Lynne Lindner, this group of talented local female singers present a programme celebrating the works of women composers past and present.”

The Jenny Lind singers will perform at All Saints Church, Deansway, Worcester, on Sunday, May 24, with tickets priced at £12 each.
