Man caught driving Ford Transit motorway despite being banned narrowly avoids jail

A MAN has narrowly avoided jail after he was caught driving a van on a motorway whilst banned and with no insurance.

Scott Hodgetts, of Darbys Green, Knightwick, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday (August 31) charged with using a motor vehicle without third party insurance and whilst disqualified.

The 33-year-old was caught driving a Ford Transit van on the M11 between junction 5 and junction 6 in Essex on November 18, 2025.

The magistrates’ noted that his flagrant disregard for court orders, as well as the fact the offence was committed shortly after he had been disqualified and their were passengers in the van, were aggravating factors which justified a custodial sentence.

However, because their was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation for Hodgetts, he was handed an eight-week sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He will also be required to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, and he is disqualified for 18 months.
