Man dies after incident while working at pub

A MAN has died after an incident while he was working at a Worcestershire pub.

Police and paramedics were called to the Park Gate on Stourbridge Road, Kidderminster, at around 12.40pm on Wednesday April 8.

The 62-year-old man, who the pub said was an independent contractor carrying out work at the site, was found in a critical condition and needed life support treatment before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

West Mercia Police confirmed today (Wednesday April 15) that the man has died and that enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of his death.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it was aware of the case and was working with West Mercia Police to make “initial enquiries.”

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “We can confirm the man has sadly died.

“Enquiries are on-going to establish the cause of death, however, there is not believed to be any third-party involvement or gross negligence.

“HSE has been updated.”

A spokesperson for The Park Gate said at the time: “The pub was closed yesterday following a tragic accident involving an independent contractor who had been carrying out work on site.

“Our thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues, and with everyone in the local community affected.

“We kindly ask for privacy and understanding for all those involved at this difficult time.”

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police previously said: “Emergency services were called to The Park Gate Inn on Stourbridge Road in Kidderminster around 12.40pm yesterday (Wednesday, April 8) following an accident involving a man carrying out work at the address.

“A 62-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries.

“The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have been informed.”
