McDonalds filled to the brim with hungry customers after refurbishment

A FAST food chain was packed full of customers within minutes of reopening following a month-long closure.

McDonald’s was filled to the brim with hungry customers today (May 13) as it welcomed diners back into its Malvern restaurant following a major refurbishment.

The restaurant and drive-thru at Three Counties Retail Park were due for a makeover after receiving its last spruce-up in 2015.

Sarah Mclean, the branch’s franchisee, admitted she thought it might not have been that busy at the re-opening and was delighted with the turnout

“I never fail to be surprised by the support of the community,” she said.

“We have been here since 8am this morning, and in the lead up to 11am, there was nobody about.

“I thought it was going to be one of the first openings where there would be no one.

“But it turns out everyone was sitting in their cars waiting and that shows the appeal of McDonald’s.

“I remember during lockdown, and we were closed for a number of weeks, and when we reopened, there was a huge boom [in customers].

“It is a little bit like that again – people have been deprived of their hit of McDonald’s for the last few weeks.”

What changes have been made to McDonald’s in Malvern?

The restaurant was closed for nearly a month while a new ordering area, tablets for children, tables, seating, and signage were installed inside the building.

It has also received new road markings outside and its kitchen received a new floor.

Ms Mclean added: “In the lead up to it opening, the restaurant had been closed for a number of weeks, and today is the first time we have been able to see what has been done.

“We are absolutely delighted with it.

“It is bright, it is light and it is comfortable.

“We are reinvesting in the community, keeping the look contemporary and current, whether it is through the display for happy meals, the latest kiosk or the seating.

“It is giving it that new burst of vibrancy and freshness you would expect.”

During the closure, the business has also been working on the speed of its service, and it is hoped that food will be prepared even quicker than before.

McDonald’s in Malvern was granted a licence to open 24 hours a day in 2022.

The retail park was built in the mid-1990s.
