THE slow rumble of motorbikes will be heard through Worcester as family and friends remember “a fountain of knowledge” in the biking community.
WAC Motorcycle Club’s final ride-in of the year tomorrow (September 8) will pay tribute to their long-standing committee member Alan Burton.
The motorbike lover had been a well-known face at the club for the last 20 years, and even longer within motorcycle and racing circles.

Mr Burton was a longstanding member of Worcester Auto Club and served on its committee for many years before illness forced him to step back.
As well as serving on the committee, he assisted with jobs around the club, including mowing the grass and helping to organise major events such as the Star Bike show.
He was known within the club and wider Worcestershire for his willingness to help wherever needed.

Jon Barras, chair of WAC Motorcycle Club, said: “I’ve known Burty since I joined the club in 2018.
“He was a great supporter of the club and was involved with the committee up until his illness started.
“He was a fabulous mentor when I took over as Chairman in 2024 and was a fountain of knowledge about the club and its history.

“He fought bravely against his illness, but alas, as is the case, he was taken too soon.
“Ride free, my friend, and condolences to Bev and the family.”
Motorcycle racing was one of Mr Burton’s greatest passions.
He helped with race meetings and knew some of the sport’s most famous names, including world champions Barry Sheene and Phil Read.

The ride-in tomorrow has been organised in his memory, with the family requesting that proceeds support Midlands Air Ambulance.
In addition, 50 per cent of the event barbecue profits will be donated, and collection tins will be available at the bar.
The ride-in is open to all and motorbikes will begin to arrive at the club on Perdiswell Park from 6pm.
