Police warn of ‘extremely dangerous’ trend as youths enter abandoned city buildings

POLICE have issued a warning as youths enter abandoned buildings in Worcester.

It comes after people have reportedly been entering empty sites across the city, including rooftops and derelict buildings.

Officers in Worcester warned that entering these sites to film clips for social media can “quickly become extremely dangerous”.

Several incidents have been reported, including youths entering the now-closed Slug and Lettuce building, being seen on the roof of the derelict County Hall, and people accessing the former Buzz Bingo building on Foregate Street.

The warning, originally shared by Dorset Police, said urban exploring can have “hidden hazards”.

The force urged parents to speak to their children about the risks involved.

“Young people are accessing rooftops, derelict buildings and other restricted sites,” a police spokesperson said.

“What might seem like an adventure, or something to film for social media, can very quickly become extremely dangerous.

“Falls from height, unstable buildings and hidden hazards can have life-changing consequences.

“We don’t want to wait until somebody is seriously hurt before having this conversation.

“If you have teenagers, please talk to them about where they’re going, what they’re doing and the risks involved.

“Know where they are. Have the conversation. Help us keep them safe.”
