Tesco to introduce major car park update at 10 UK stores this weekend – full list

Tesco is set to introduce a major update to its car parks at select stores across the UK this weekend.

The supermarket giant will be launching limited-edition Park & Pause bays at 10 of its sites on Saturday (April 11).

Visitors to these parking bays will be treated to a free Tesco Finest hot drink, a biscuit, and a much-needed breather during their busy days.

The new Park & Pause bays come as new research from Tesco revealed around 42% of Brits admit to escaping to the supermarket, just to get a few minutes to themselves.

Parents of children under four are the most likely to offer to do a Tesco dash to get some alone time (68%).

The supermarket can be the perfect place to escape day-to-day life, according to the recent study, either for a solo trip or a mooch with family as shoppers peruse new products or special offers (43%), grab a snack, coffee, or treat while they’re there (38%) or enjoy a small change of scenery (27%).

It seems a quick breather can have a big impact, as Tesco’s research shows that, on average, people begin to feel revived and restored after just 14 minutes to themselves.

Even five minutes is enough for a fifth of the nation to feel the benefit.

Tesco ambassadors will hand-deliver a free Tesco Finest hot drink and a biscuit to car windows at the Park & Pause bays.

The car park spaces will be marked with a stopwatch symbol.

They will be available between 8am and 5pm on Saturday (April 11) at ten store locations across the UK:

The new Park & Pause spaces coincide with the Quiet Hour already in place at larger Tesco stores every Wednesday and Saturday mornings between 9am and 10am.

Signs have been added to some Tesco car parks warning drivers not to park in parent and child car parking bays if they don’t have any children with them.

The notices warn shoppers that anyone who is seen to abuse the spaces and what they’re intended for will face a parking charge.

Sharing the announcement on Instagram, Netmums shared a picture of the signs, which read: “Parent & child only.

“Misuse of these bays may result in a PARKING CHARGE. This space is reserved for customers taking little shoppers into the store.”

Tesco told Newsquest the signage also applies to disabled parking bays, with customers being reminded to display their Blue Badges when using them.
