An independent cinema has celebrated the launch of its brand new bar and venue in Kidderminster.
The Futurist Cinema will opened its new venue space, Room 34, on Saturday (August 8).
The venue’s owner, Sachia Mooney started a crowdfunder for the refurbishment of the space earlier this year, and described the opening as the “beginning of something new” for the business.

Owner Sachia Mooney, who started work on plans for the venue in 2024, said: “Since we took over Futurist Cinema in July 2024 we’ve been working hard to bring new life into the venue and make it something quirky and unique for Kidderminster.
“Room 34 is the next step – creating a new space for live arts, events and community activity.”
The opening was an opportunity to look around the venue and enjoy some live music.

Jason Farmer, the Room 34 venue manager, described the opening night as “amazing” and told people to “watch this space” for more live music, theatre and other events.
He said: “Our launch was fantastic. After eight months of hard work, it was amazing to see it all come together and our bar and venue open.
“Watch this space for news of more live music, theatre and other events. Huge thanks to everyone who has supported us. It really means a lot.”

Upcoming events including a Spoken Word Open Mic night on Wednesday (August 19).
Visitors will be treated to an immersive evening of poetry, prose and personal stories.
People will be able to “step up to the mic” and show their work or they can sit and enjoy.
There will also be the opportunity for someone to read your work aloud if you’re less confident in front of a crowd.
The event will take place on the second Wednesday of each month.

On Wednesday (September 2), there will be an Open Mic with Steve event where signers and instrumentalists can show their talent or enjoy the music.
It will take place on the first Wednesday of each month.
On Saturday (October 10), there will be an Autumn Festival with local makers, creative workshops, wellbeing, seasonal treats and singers.
On Thursday (October 15), there will be An Evening of Terror event where Alan Birch from The Black Country Horror group will be taking on the role of storyteller to present five terrifying true tales that lead to real hauntings using projected imagery and sound effects.
