Worcestershire’s largest college praised in ‘milestone’ Ofsted inspection

HEART of Worcestershire College is celebrating a “fantastic milestone” after receiving praise in its latest Ofsted report.

The “anchor institution” was recognised for its quality of education and support following an inspection in March.

Worcestershire’s largest college was rated as performing to a “strong standard” in three areas, including meeting skills needs, inclusivity, and its provision for learners with high needs.

It met the ‘expected standard’ in 12 other areas.

Principal Michelle Dowse said: “We are delighted with this Ofsted report which reflects the dedication, passion and hard work of our staff, students and partners.

“Achieving strong and the high bar of expected standards across all areas is a fantastic milestone for the college.

“We are proud of the recognition of our inclusive culture and our commitment to supporting all of our learners to lead them to achieve their full potential.”

Ofsted inspectors praised employer and community partnerships, noting that the college is “recognised as an anchor institution across Worcestershire.”

The report also highlighted the success of the institution’s curriculum for learners with high needs, describing it as “a highly ambitious development programme that boosts their resilience, confidence, and independence.”

Student outcomes were also commended, with Ofsted noting that many of the 5,266 learners develop confidence and form positive, professional relationships with peers and staff.

Inspectors found that students on access to higher education (HE) programmes are well-prepared for their next steps, with the majority progressing to university or apprenticeships.

David Ash, chair of governors, said: “This report shines a spotlight on the exceptional work taking place across Heart of Worcestershire College every day.

“It recognises not only the quality of our provision but also the vital contribution the college makes to Worcestershire’s economy and community.

“We are immensely proud of the inclusive, ambitious and supportive environment that has been created here.”

A high percentage of apprentices achieved distinction grades at the college, which has campuses in Bromsgrove, Redditch, Worcester and Malvern.
