A housebuilder is looking to the next generation for futuristic home ideas.
Redrow Midlands, currently building at Royal Gardens in Worcester, has launched a competition for children aged four to 16 to design a home for the year 2126.
The winning entry will earn its creator the title of ‘archi-tot of the future,’ a £100 prize, and the chance to have their design buried in a time capsule at the Royal Gardens development, to be unearthed in 100 years.
Joanne Watson, sales director for Redrow Midlands, said: “We’re so excited to get a glimpse into the future of housebuilding by calling on Worcester’s most creative young talent to imagine what a home will look like in 100 years.
“From convertible roofs for those sweltering summer nights to robot gardeners who mow the lawn, we’re searching for the most adventurous and ambitious designers for this role.
“Here at Redrow Midlands, we’re committed to bringing young people into the construction sector and are recognised by the industry for our training excellence and apprenticeship programme.
“What better way to celebrate the talent of local youngsters and showcase the wonderful creative abilities of the next generation?
“Who knows, the winner could become an apprentice with us in the future, where they might find themselves building new homes.”
Youngsters are encouraged to think big, with ideas such as mood-changing wallpaper, self-stocking fridges, and self-cleaning bathrooms, all designed to meet the needs of future families in an energy-efficient and sustainable way.

The winner from Worcester will join other regional winners from across the UK, with one national champion to be announced later in the year.
