How this Channel 5 show helped put a struggling Malvern hotel and pub back on track

A FAMILY-run pub and hotel has been very busy since appearing on a hit Channel 5 show that helped it get back on track.

The Plume of Feathers took centre stage in a new episode of Channel 5’s The Hotel Inspector as the presenter Alex Polizzi stepped in to help the venue find stability, structure, and a clearer identity.

Hendrik Minderman had initially taken over the 18th-Century Castlemorton pub last year after deciding to abandon a career in accountancy.

But the presenter, Polizzi, was met with chaos, pressure, and untapped potential when she first arrived at the venue.

In the show, Mr Minderman admitted he lacked experience and his ambition to turn the pub into a local hotspot had fallen short of reality.

Polizzi quickly identifies weak management and an overcomplicated menu as key issues.

“She focused more on my management and making it easier for us to manage,” said Mr Minderman.

“For instance, shortening our menu to make it easier for my mother, who is our chef.

“The smaller menu you have greatly helped us and, since then, it’s been shortened again.

“The whole idea of the show being filmed here as well has brought in more people.”

Family pressures were evident throughout the episode as audiences watched Mr Minderman’s mother juggle multiple roles, from chef to accountant, and had an unsustainable workload.

Mr Minderman’s dad was helping out behind the bar, and his sister was helping out in the kitchen and at the front of house.

Polizzi had emphasised the need for structure and teamwork for the pub’s survival.

Since receiving help from the show, Mr Minderman said the pub had been “very busy” and “much more established” in the area.

“We wanted to be on the show because we thought it would be quite fun and would make a good advertisement for the pub and the business,” Mr Minderman added.

“What caught me off guard was how long it took to make one scene and the fact that we didn`t get much time to make the amendments.

“We were only permitted to start on them when the cameras were rolling.”

The episode aired on Channel 5 last night (Thursday) and can still be watched on MyTV.
