Man faces being thrown out of UK after cannabis farm found

A MAN is facing deportation after a cannabis farm was found in Droitwich.

Festim Ahmetaj, 35, was caught growing 200 cannabis plants during a police raid at a property in Victoria Square last month.

He has now been sentenced to 34 months in prison for cultivation of a class B drug and for knowingly entering the UK in breach of a deportation order.

Ahmetaj, who was living at Victoria Square in Droitwich, was also ordered to forfeit and destroy the plants and growing equipment, to forfeit £300 of cash and to pay a victim surcharge of £228.

The Border and Immigration Agency has been informed that he may be liable for deportation.

Lisa Hornberger, safer neighbourhood inspector for Droitwich, said: “We are pleased to swiftly get a custodial sentencing for Ahmetaj following our warrant at the address in Victoria Square last month.

“Cannabis grows like this are often linked to organised criminal gangs and this is another one shut down and the ‘farmer’ behind bars.

“Ahmetaj also breached a deportation order so he ultimately faces being thrown out of the UK pending a decision by the Border and Immigration Agency.”
