A driver who ignored new bollards designed to stop ‘selfish’ motorists parking on a pavement and blocking a junction has been called a ‘brain dead idiot’ by a councillor.
Cllr Alan Amos successfully lobbied for the five bollards at the junction of Bransford Road and Malvern Road in St John’s in Worcester to stop motorists parking on the pavement, behaviour he branded both ‘selfish’ and ‘dangerous’.
The rationale from Cllr Amos, a Reform UK county councillor for Bedwardine, was that the bollards would protect pedestrians, including pupils at the nearby Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School or shoppers heading on foot to the Sainsbury’s supermarket opposite.

However, this photo shows, despite the bollards only having been recently installed by Worcestershire County Council, one driver has already found a way to circumvent them, possibly by driving up a dropped kerb, before parking completely on the pavement.
A witness who saw the incident said: “New bollards in St John’s are working well. This is a constant occurrence, the other day a poor lady in a mobility scooter had to go on the road to get past a delivery driver who had parked completely on the pavement!! There is no respect for pedestrians.”

Hospital use of County Hall would be ‘good common sense’
Cllr Alan Amos, who viewed the photo, said: “This irresponsible behaviour just goes to show why we were right to put bollards up. Clearly, this brain dead idiot has no regard for the safety of pedestrians and what this motorist has done is criminal behaviour and would be a matter for the police to deal with.”
Cllr Amos, who is now the leader of Reform UK in Worcestershire, said whatever happened, doing what residents want will always be my priority’ in Bedwardine and Lower Wick and Pitmaston, which he represents as a city councillor.
He had responded to representations from the Governing Body about the safety of the children, visiting the site to see what could be done.
We reported in October 2024 how Cllr Amos spent thousands from his highways fund on five bollards outside Domino’s Pizza in St John’s, Worcester after he got fed-up with people parking on the new block paving.
