A care home has been rated ‘good’ by inspectors.
Elgar Court Care Home, on St Andrews Road in Malvern and operated by Barchester Healthcare, was given the rating following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on January 20 and 21, 2026.
The CQC report, published on April 13, praised the home’s service as safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.
Cllr Clive Hooper, who officially opened the care home in 2023 during his time as mayor of Malvern, joined staff to celebrate the achievement alongside Cllr David Mead, who was deputy mayor at the time.
Sarah Cadwallader, senior general manager at Elgar Court, said: “We are delighted that Elgar Court Care Home was rated ‘Good’ overall following the CQC inspection and that many areas were quoted to be exceptional within the report.
“The team at Elgar Court Care Home always strive to provide the best possible quality care for everyone who lives at the home.
“We pride our home being one large family and every day is a new day and our vision at Elgar is that we are a cruise ship – we just don’t leave dock, but we do venture out on many beautiful and varied excursions and live life to the full.
“Life begins at Elgar Court.”
The CQC report highlighted an “outstanding” approach to maximising the effectiveness of care, with regular assessments and reviews tailored to residents’ health, wellbeing, and communication needs.
Inspectors also noted the value of community-based activities, such as visits to a local pub, swimming pools, and nearby coffee shops, organised by the home’s dedicated activities coordinator.
The report stated: “The home’s vision and culture extended beyond the service, with strong links built to promote people’s inclusion and connection with the wider community with staff investing a significant effort into developing these relationships.”
In recognition of the team’s hard work, each staff member received a £100 gift voucher.
Elgar Court Care Home provides residential and specialist dementia care for 66 residents, offering both long-term and respite placements.
