Waterside pub reopens after ‘mammoth’ £350k refurbishment

A PUB in a picturesque waterside town has reopened after a “mammoth” £350,000 refurbishment.

The Kings Head on the High Street in Upton upon Severn has just reopened its doors after being closed for upgrade works.

There are also new faces at the pub, with Nikky Evans taking over management, alongside her partner Shane, father Bob, and children Aurora and baby Shane.

With them, the family have brought on 15 members of staff, with plans to recruit 10 more over the summer.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time for us and, after many weeks of hard work from an amazing team, we’re delighted to have reopened this fantastic pub,” she said

“We’re excited to say that food will be available from day one and we’re proud to be offering an excellent drinks range, including cask ales, lagers, ciders, craft beers, wines and a wide choice of spirits, soft drinks and no- and low-alcohol options. 

“We’d love people to come and say hello, see The Kings for themselves and be part of our exciting new chapter.”

She is hoping to create a regular “rhythm” to the pub, with quizzes, open mic nights and charity events.

The refurbishment has included an overhaul of the interior and exterior of the pub, which overlooks the River Severn.

Punch Pubs and Co, who own the pub, said visitors can expect a fully redecorated building and improved outdoor seating.

Operations manager Tony Riley said: “We’re thrilled to see The Kings Head reopen following this significant investment.

“Nikky has a fantastic vision for the pub, and we’re confident it will quickly become a much-loved destination at the heart of the Worcester community. This investment reflects our commitment to creating exceptional community pubs that bring people together and deliver memorable guest experiences.”
