Residents at a care home have been joining in the excitement of the World Cup thanks to a former professional footballer.
Wellbeing assistant at Sanctuary Care’s Juniper House Residential Care Home in Worcester Danny Jackman started his career at 16 with Aston Villa.
He went on to play for clubs including Stockport County, Gillingham, Kidderminster Harriers, Worcester City and Redditch.
During his football career, Mr Jackman also visited care homes and hospitals, sharing his experiences with people of all ages.
Now, he continues to use football to connect with residents, helping them reminisce and stay active through shared interests.

He said: “Football is the world’s game. Everyone either supported a team or had a loved one who did, so it brings back memories and puts a smile on their face – especially during the World Cup.”
To celebrate the World Cup, Juniper House residents recently took part in a football-themed activity session, kicking or throwing a ball while sharing their personal football stories.
Residents taking part included Shelia Downing, Shelia Palmer, Norma Speaks and Jayne Francis.
Mr Jackman said: “Football is truly a game for everyone, and everyone can get involved no matter their ability or experience.
“It’s been great to see residents enjoying themselves and sharing those special moments, with plenty of smiles and laughter throughout.”
The session is part of the care home’s ongoing programme of activities aimed at promoting wellbeing and creating meaningful moments for residents.
