Drivers in Worcester found themselves stuck in long tailbacks after a technical fault affected traffic lights.
A timing issue with the lights at the junction of Waitrose in London Road caused traffic to build up on Monday.
Some commuters suggested the sequencing issue had arisen after the lights were damaged, and later mended, following a collision last week.
However, Worcestershire County Council has said the fault was not related.
The lights were damaged when a car crashed into them on Wednesday, June 17.
They were fixed on Thursday, June 25, however commuters soon complained of increased traffic on the road.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council confirmed there had been a fault with the traffic signals but this was not down to changes to the signal timings.
Traffic has been “horrendous”
One commuter, who wished to remain unnamed and travels up the hill to their job, said: “Rush hour traffic has been really bad since Friday morning, which was the day after they reinstalled the traffic lights.
“I thought there might have been a crash on Friday morning but I couldn’t see anything and traffic was equally horrendous this morning.
“It should take me 15 minutes to get to work but it took me almost half an hour and nearly made me late for work both days.
“It seems like the lights are letting far fewer cars through than normal, before going red again.
“I’m dreading what it’s going to be like when the Cadent gas works start on London Road next week. That stretch of road is busy enough as it is.”
Temporary fault
Worcestershire County Council explained that the lights should now be operating as normal after a temporary fault had been rectified.

A spokesperson said: “There was a fault with the traffic signals this morning, which has now been resolved.
“The queues experienced this morning were a result of the temporary fault rather than any changes to the signal timings.
“Now that the fault has been rectified, the signals are operating normally.”
