Freshly renovated play facilities are now open and ready for families to enjoy this summer holidays.
The improvements are part of a £155,000 investment by Worcester City Council to upgrade the playground next to Ronkswood Hub on Canterbury Road.
Councillor Adrian Gregson, chair of the city council’s place and economic development committee, said: “School’s out, and so is the sun – so there couldn’t be a better time to throw open the gates at the fantastic regenerated play facilities in Ronkswood.
“Local kids are already enjoying the benefits that the city council’s investment has brought and I’m sure they will continue to for many years to come.”
The revamped site includes a colourful toddler zone featuring a new roundabout, seesaw, play castle, storytelling area and a stage.
Eye-catching new floor graphics encourage little ones to play running and jumping games, while new fencing helps to keep the toddlers safe.
In the junior section, new features were designed to appeal equally to girls and boys.
Additions include a set of face-to-face swings to promote social interaction, a climbing structure made from hexagonal blocks, somersault bars, stepping posts, a net hammock and a quiet recovery spot.
The adjoining multi-use game area has also been upgraded, with new hoops and back boards, new line markings for basketball and football, and hard surfacing to replace the old muddy access points at the goals.
The refurbishment was completed in eight weeks by Greenfields.
It forms part of the broader Worcester Play Plan, an ongoing commitment by the council to improve outdoor play provision across the city for children and young people.
Work on two more play areas will be completed shortly, and plans for improvements to Power Park in St Peter’s will be revealed later this year.
