A devoted care worker has retired after nearly five decades of providing exemplary care.
Lynette Bourne, one of the longest-serving staff members at Elizabeth Finn Homes, began her career at Rashwood Care Home in Droitwich on March 5, 1979.
She first saw the home as a six-year-old child during a school visit to sing Christmas carols to residents.
Mrs Bourne said: “It has been an amazing 47 years and incredibly rewarding meeting and getting to know so many residents, their families and team members.
“One particular highlight was when we opened our brand new 40-bedded specialist nursing suite back in 1996 but I have so many fond memories to take away with me.”
Over the years, she developed her skills while caring for countless residents and celebrating many personal milestones, including getting married and having children and grandchildren.
Rashwood has a very strong family connection for her, with her mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister-in-law all working at the home over the years.
Her grandfather also worked at Rashwood when it was a private house.
Then known as Rashwood Court, it was the home of John Richard Hugh Sumner, son of Typhoo Tea founder Sir John Sumner.
In 1950 he passed the 25-roomed residence on to The Distressed Gentlefolk’s Aid Association, set up by Elizabeth Finn.
Staff and residents organised a surprise party to celebrate Mrs Bourne’s retirement, with family and members of the Elizabeth Finn senior management as guests.
The catering department put on a delicious spread and there were many heartfelt speeches.
Rachel Wilson, general manager, said: “We cannot thank Lynette enough for her 47 years of dedication and care.
“A much-loved team member, she consistently displayed a strong and compassionate work ethic.
“We wish her a very happy retirement, she will be greatly missed.”
Rashwood Care Home, part of the Elizabeth Finn Homes care group, is a country house set in six acres of grounds close to the centre of Droitwich.
The home offers 53 rooms for older people on a permanent or respite basis, as well as offering nursing care.
