THE owner of a new deli in Malvern has said it is already selling out of sandwiches just one week after opening.
Deli Folk has been open for just a matter of days but Steve Cook said the response from customers has surpassed his expectations.
The 41-year-old opened the shop on Belle Vue Terrace this month, after leaving his corporate job.
While he had been sharing the process of getting the shop ready to open on Instagram, Mr Cook said he hadn’t officially announced the opening date until the very last minute.
Nonetheless, keen locals turned up to support the new business.

‘Better than we expected’
“We didn’t really announce it until the day before but it was so much better than we expected,” he said.
“We had so much good feedback. People who had been following us on Instagram came in because they saw the doors were open.
“Since then it’s just been great, we’ve had such a great reception. It’s been busy, we’ve been selling out of sandwiches. We couldn’t have asked for better.
“There’s a lot to be said for the shop window and passing traffic but Instagram has been really useful because we’ve been able to reach a lot more people.”

Keeping the town centre alive
Deli Folk is in the former site of Lonsdale’s Fresh Produce, a fruit and veg shop and café that closed down earlier this year due to rising costs.
Among the positive feedback he has received, Mr Cook said customers and neighbouring businesses are relieved to see the space filled.
“I think the neighbouring businesses are glad that it’s been turned into something and not stayed as an empty unit for a year or two,” he said.
