M5 reopens after embankment fire causes long delays

THE M5 has reopened after a fire spread onto the embankment.

Lanes of the motorway were shut between junctions 3 and 4 of the M5 on Monday afternoon (August 3) after a fire broke out.

Footage showed a large cloud of smoke and flames, which National Highways said was an “off-network” fire that had spread.

Firefighters were called to the scene.

There were delays of 20 minutes and two miles of traffic.

Shortly after 2.30pm, all lanes of the motorway reopened, with some delays remaining.
