THE council is still unable to confirm a reopening date for the A449.
The road has been closed near the British Camp car park in Malvern for almost 11 months for repairs to a collapsed retaining wall.
Having closed on September 8, 2025, it had been due to reopen in April this year but has remained closed after a new landslip appeared.
In July, Worcestershire County Council said ground investigation work into the landslip was expected to be completed by the end of the month.

What is happening now?
The authority has now said that “most” of the investigation was finished but that some work still remained.
When asked by the Malvern Gazette when the road might finally reopen, the council did not provide a date and said timescales would depend on the findings of the investigation.
According to One Network, the online roadworks map used by Worcestershire County Council, the A449 is scheduled to remain closed until September 30. The council has not confirmed this.
A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council, said: “Most of the detailed ground investigation work on site has now been completed.
“Once the remaining investigation work is finished and the findings have been compiled into a technical report and analysed by our engineering advisers over the summer, we will have a clearer understanding of how long the road will need to remain closed.
“Any timescale will depend on the solution selected and the extent of the works required.
“Updates will continue to be provided through One Network and our website as further information becomes available.”

Businesses and diversion route
Businesses in the area remain open as usual and an official diversion is in place, taking drivers via Welland, Hollybush and Eastnor.

However, it was revealed in May that claims for pothole damage on Jubilee Drive had jumped more than six times since the road closure came into force, as motorists use it as an unofficial diversion.
The road is within Herefordshire Council’s area, and the authority has previously said that it plans to resurface the road, but not before the A449 reopens.
