A post office in Worcestershire will close today with its long-serving subpostmaster retiring after more than a decade of service.
Nick Brown, 71, has run Holt Heath Post Office in Worcestershire for 14 years and is stepping down after a 34-year career in the postal industry.
The post office will close to the public on Wednesday, September 30, with Mr Brown set to officially retire on Friday after completing final audit work.
He has also held positions in Bromsgrove, Worcester and Birmingham during his career.
Mr Brown had pinned a card up in the branch for his customers to see.
It read: “I am floating away to a new venture called retirement. I will miss you all and thank you all for being my dear friends. Love to you all and please keep in touch.”
He was also offering them free chocolate and biscuits on his last day of trade.
The site has housed a post office for between 30 and 40 years, the subpostmaster told us.
Nicola Brown, a former training colleague, said: “It’s a big thing, he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He always goes above and beyond. He’s an absolutely super guy, and very kind.”
A Post Office spokesperson said: “The postmaster for Holt Heath has resigned as he wishes to retire.
“We want to thank the postmaster for his 14 years of loyal service to this community. Regrettably, the branch closes today (30/9).
“In the interim alternative branches include Hallow and Lower Broadheath.”
Post Office are currently advertising the vacancy and are keen to hear from local retailers about the business opportunity.
