City landlords have been urged to attend an event to learn about their new legal responsibilities.
The Landlords’ Forum is scheduled for Thursday, November 26, at the Guildhall, starting at 3.30pm.
Organised by Worcester City Council, it is designed to familiarise landlords with the new legally required duties under the Renters’ Rights Act.
From December 15, all landlords must enrol in the new Register Your Property Scheme or risk facing a fine of up to £7,000.
Councillor Katie Collier, vice chair of the city council’s communities committee, emphasised the importance of the event.
She said: “The Renters’ Rights Act is being rolled out in stages, with the first phase introducing several additional rights for tenants.
“Now the new registration rules are coming in for landlords, and this Landlords’ Forum event will be a great opportunity to hear from the experts.
“You’ll learn all about the Register your Property Scheme and how it’s vital to act quickly and avoid any penalties.
“I’d encourage all Worcester landlords to book their place by emailing privatehousing@worcester.gov.uk.”
The new regulations demand landlords register their properties on the Government database if they are currently under let or become let during the roll-out period of December 15, 2026 to March 14, 2027.
The responsibility of registration lies with the landlord, although some information can be delegated to a managing agent.
Details required include the landlord’s personal information, the property address, the number of occupants and bedrooms, and the rent amount.
Additionally, gas, electrical, and energy performance certificates must be uploaded to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
The online register is set to open next month, with printed forms available for those unable to register online.
There will be an annual charge of £65 per registered property.
The Register Your Property Scheme will also feature a dedicated helpline for user support, with details to be announced once the scheme starts.
The Landlords’ Forum will also discuss Worcester City Council’s enhanced focus on early intervention and homelessness prevention as part of its forthcoming homelessness and rough sleeping strategy.
This will allow landlords to provide feedback and insights to help improve services for both private sector tenants and landlords.
Landlords are asked to register in advance at privatehousing@worcester.gov.uk.
