Worcestershire’s best place to live ‘is a bit pricey but has undeniable popularity’

A TINY Worcestershire village known for attracting footballers, singers and millionaires has now been named one of the county’s most desirable places to live.

Muddy Stilettos has crowned Barnt Green, on Worcestershire’s northern edge, the best place to live in the county.

However, this may come as little surprise to readers.

The leafy village combines countryside living with restaurants, pubs, independent businesses, and easy access to Birmingham.

And then there are the neighbours.

Barnt Green has built a reputation as a celebrity hotspot over the years.

Singer Jamelia has been reported to live in the village, while Jack Grealish and Ben Francis, the billionaire founder of Gymshark, have also been linked to the area.

Football stars Jude Bellingham and Ollie Watkins have also been linked to property or investments there, with 2024 reports saying Jude Bellingham bought land for a new home.

But beyond the famous faces, what makes Barnt Green such an attractive village?

What makes Barnt Green so special?

Muddy Stilettos described Barnt Green as: “It may be a bit pricey, but its popularity is undeniable.”

One of Barnt Green’s biggest selling points has to be its surroundings.

Residents get the best of both worlds by living a semi-rural lifestyle next to the bright lights of Birmingham.

It means the village offers something rare: the feeling of being tucked away in the countryside without being isolated.

Muddy Stilettos added: “Barnt Green is the kind of village that ticks every box: stylish cafés and pubs, brilliant schools, and a thriving community, all within an easy hop to Birmingham.

“Twinned with rolling countryside on the doorstep, plus the 525-acre Lickey Hills Country Park, it’s clear why this hotspot is a coveted postcode.”

It’s a good place for food

For somewhere relatively small, Barnt Green punches above its weight when it comes to eating out.

Black & Green on Hewell Road offers tasting-menu dining, while The Victoria, Cork and Crust and Cofton on the Green are among the other places to eat in and around the village.

The Barnt Green Inn is another well-known local watering hole, and both it and The Victoria have previously been named as places frequented by some of the area’s high-profile residents.

How much does it cost to live in Barnt Green?

Muddy Stilettos describes residents needing “healthy finances to buy here”.

It reveals the average sold prices over the past year were £753,083, with detached homes averaging £915,283.

Flats averaged £304,375, while terraced properties averaged £301,983.

“Large detached family homes hidden behind mature trees are very much the norm here, and buyers are paying as much for the lifestyle as the bricks and mortar,” It added.

The celebrity connections hint at another side to Barnt Green.

So while its growing celebrity roll call may be what puts Barnt Green on the map, its countryside walks, places to eat, and village atmosphere offer plenty of reasons for people without Premier League salaries to visit too.
