Ambulance service update after serious crash on main road

EMERGENCY services rushed to a serious crash which closed a main road after a driver suffered a “medical incident while at the wheel”.

An elderly man was in a “potentially serious condition”, and an elderly woman was injured following a crash on the A449 between Claines and Ombersley today (Thursday).

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at around 1.30pm and found it involved one car.

Both man and woman were taken to Worcester Royal Hospital.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.28pm to a road traffic collision involving one car at the junction of the A449 and Worcester Road in Ombersley.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found an elderly man who was the driver of the car and an elderly woman who was a passenger.

“The driver, who is believed to have suffered a medical incident while at the wheel was assessed and was in a potentially serious condition.

“He received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene.

“The passenger had sustained injuries not believed to be serious.

“She received treatment at the scene. Both were conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment.”

West Mercia Police had closed the A449 for several hours due to the incident.

The road closure was in place between Hawford and Sinton.

 A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “Emergency services are currently at the scene of a collision on the A449 between Hawford and Sinton.

“The collision occurred at around 2pm and involved one vehicle.

“Two people have been taken to hospital with injuries.”

The A449 in Worcestershire has since reopened and traffic has since eased in the area.
