A DOCUMENTARY detailing how West Mercia Police brought down an organised crime group is set to air next week.
Operation Flare saw West Mercia Police investigate a car key burglary gang that stole around 100 vehicles worth almost £3.5 million over the summer of 2024.
Members of the gang were collectively sentenced to nearly a century in prison for their roles, making it the biggest conspiracy case ever dealt with by West Mercia Police.
The fourth episode of 999: What Happened Next Series 2 will show the work that went into tracking down and ending the gang’s criminal activities.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “999: What Happened Next takes viewers behind the scenes of major police investigations, showing how investigators uncover the truth using real police body-worn footage, CCTV and interviews with those involved.
“Don’t miss this fascinating insight into how our teams worked tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.”

Valuable cars, including Land Rovers, Range Rovers, BMWs and Audis, were targeted by the gang.
Members would break into the homes of victims and steal the keys, before cleaning the entrance to remove any forensic evidence.
The stolen cars would either be sold on the black market or stripped for parts at chop shops.

During the gang’s sentencing hearing, judge Andrew Lockhart said: “The terrible and long-lasting impact of your offences strikes at the heart of society who should feel safe and secure in their own homes.
“You reaped havoc upon their lives without any thought for them. Families endured fear, and children were affected by your actions. A significant portion of your victims were forced to move home as they couldn’t face living there anymore.
“You caused them huge financial losses. Sentimental items were taken, and relationships between families were harmed by the stress you caused them.”
Operation Flare will feature on 999: What Happened Next on Channel 4 at 9pm on Monday (September 28).
